Newell shoots rare double eagle

Published:

When 64-year-old Cottonwood resident Norm Newell sunk his second shot on No. 12 at a local golf course in Cornville from 210 yards out May 7, he didn’t even know it.

“From where we were, we actually couldn’t see the cup or the ball once it landed. My buddy said the shot looked pretty good so when we went up to find it, I looked around and couldn’t find it,” Newell said, figuring he had lost his ball.

“My friend George [Meyer] said, well look in the cup,” Newell recalled. “And there it was.”
