The town of Clarkdale is saddened to announce the loss of former Councilwoman Patricia Williams, who died while surrounded by her family at her son’s home in Seattle, Tuesday, May 8.
“Pat was my model of citizen involvement and caring for one’s community,” Clarkdale Mayor Doug Von Gausig said. “She gave herself tirelessly to the betterment of Clarkdale and the Verde Valley, and we are all diminished by her passing. We will find another councilperson to fill Pat’s seat, but she will never be replaced.”
After successfully battling cancer during her second term of office last year, Williams ran for and was elected to a third term on the Clarkdale Town Council in the March Primary Election.
Her health began to worsen, and she submitted her letter of resignation to the Town Council on April 9. A week later, she was diagnosed with a recurrence of cancer and left Clarkdale for Seattle to be with her family.
The Clarkdale Town Council accepted William’s resignation at its April 24 council meeting.
In lieu of flowers, the Williams family has requested donations be made for a memorial bench to be placed in Clarkdale’s new Centennial Plaza, which will be dedicated on Tuesday, July 10, in front of the Clark Memorial Clubhouse.
