New food bank feeds the hungry

Published:

The city of Cottonwood has a new food bank.

Located at the Cottonwood Christian Assembly on Mingus Avenue, the food bank opened its doors to the community for the first time April 10 at 11 a.m., with a mission to help feed low-income residents.

The Rising Hope Food Pantry offers residents shelves of canned and dry goods, freezers full of meats and tables of produce and bread at no charge, and will be open Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cottonwood Christian Assembly members Darrell and Pat Dierks led the effort to open the food bank, which is located in the church’s gymnasium, just behind the main church building.

Judging by the number of residents served on its first day, the food pantry appears to be a great success already.
