Just off State Route 260 between Camp Verde and Cottonwood, there sits a moderately sized structure which was cut apart to build the highway nearly hidden by the desert hills.
If a person isn’t specifically looking for it as they speed along the road, they’re likely to miss it.
In and of itself, the building would appear to be unremarkable except that its wooden architecture dates it as looking like something out of the Old West.
As a matter of fact, it practically is.
Just over 100 years ago, the wooden frame building was brand new, quite some distance from where it sits today.
It was the Cornville Post Office, which for years served as an important location in the unincorporated community and included a store. It was originally located by the intersection of Loy and Cornville roads, according to Gateway to Sedona, a group that promotes the Verde Valley.
