Mingus dominates Bears, 8-0

Published:

The Mingus Union High School girls soccer team has begun to come together as a team, and it’s beginning to show.

On Tuesday, Dec. 6, the Marauders played host to Bradshaw Mountain High School, defeating the Bears in outstanding fashion, 8-0.

“The first half started out slow but we picked it up in the second half,” senior Torey Braly said. “After our Vegas tournament, it is clear we’ve bonded as a team. We even played without two starters but it didn’t phase us in the least.”

Mingus took a 2-0 lead in the first half and scored six goals in the second half including senior Anna Guerero’s penalty kick to go on and win, 8-0.

At the Las Vegas Women’s Soccer Kick Off Tournament, the Marauders went 2-0-2 with big wins over Sierra Vista [4-2] and Green Valley [3-2] high schools while tieing with Liberty [1-1] and Palo Verde [0-0] high schools.

With the victory over Bradshaw Mountain on Tuesday, the Marauders improved their record to 4-0-2 overall this season. Mingus is 2-0 in Arizona Interscholastic Association power point play so far in 2011-2012.

Next up for Mingus, the Marauders are scheduled to play Coconino High School on Tuesday, Dec. 13. Official start time is set for 3 p.m.

Another notable matchup for the Marauders will be Thursday, Dec. 15, at Sedona Red Rock High School. The two teams locked horns last season, with Mingus coming out on top, 1-0.

The next time Mingus will be home is Wednesday, Jan. 4, against Prescott High School. Official start time against Prescott is set for 5 p.m.
