January was slightly less busy for the Camp Verde Marshal’s Office than the same month in 2010, but there were still several calls that kept deputies out and about on the streets, according to numbers recently released by the Town of Camp Verde.
The highest number of calls came in the form of agency assists, instances where deputies are called in to back up other agencies, including emergency responders like firefighters and paramedics and other law enforcement agencies like the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Yavapai-Apache Police Department.
The month brought 129 agency assist calls, compared to 113 a year ago and bringing the total to 394 since the fiscal year began July 1.
There were almost as many traffic offenses reported by deputies in January with 128 recorded. That’s quite a drop over the previous January, when deputies reported 205 traffic offenses. So far, 1,151 have been reported in Camp Verde town limits for the fiscal year.
When it came to violent crimes, there were nine reported assaults in January, one a felony. That’s up from three assaults reported 12 months prior and 39 assaults for the fiscal year, eight of them felonies.
There were three burglaries reported, two at a business and one at a residence. That’s down from last year when seven businesses were burglarized in January; 27 residential burglaries have been reported since July 1 and 11 at businesses.
Reported thefts were down over the previous January, 11 compared to 18, making the total 122 for the fiscal year.
One vehicle was reported stolen, making the total 12 for the year.
In other incidents, there were two reported weapons offenses, making the total 16 for the year, and 14 reported traffic accidents, making it 107 accidents in town limits since July 1.
There were five reports of harassment, four reported juvenile runaways and one reported case of fraud.
Additionally, deputies reported six DUIs in January, 28 for the year, five reported instances of domestic violence, 72 for the year and three reports of criminal damage, making it 85 for the year.
Deputies also responded to 12 activated alarms in January, investigated 69 reports of suspicious activity and one reported violation of fireworks laws.
The town’s animal control department, which operates as part of the marshal’s office, responded to 71 calls, making the total 544 for the fiscal year.
Overall, the marshal’s office responded to or reported 678 incidents in January, an 8.7 percent drop in activity over January 2010 and bringing the total incidents since July 1 to 3,280.
In other figures reported by the town for January:
- the Town Clerk’s Office issued nine new business licenses including a new downtown restaurant, an engine repair company and a gift shop.
- the town Community Development Department issued 12 building permits, including one for a manufactured home and two for upgrades at the Rainbow Acres complex.
- the town’s Public Works Department reviewed applications for the open project manager position. Steve Burroughs accepted the job and will start Monday, Feb. 21.
