The dentist community will soon owe The Town of Camp Verde a debt of gratitude, because it’s time for the fourth annual Trick or Treat Main Street celebration.
While the town has gotten out of the business of sponsoring many public events as a matter of financial integrity, it’s still on board when it comes to throwing the best Halloween party around.
Now in its fourth year, Camp Verde’s spookiest holiday tradition has become exceedingly popular. A section of Main Street will be closed to traffic on Halloween, Sunday, Oct. 31, to make room for Camp Verde’s scariest ghouls and monsters to fill their bags with candy from many Main Street merchants.
The event starts at 5 p.m. and gives the town’s youngsters and the young at heart a central place to gather for good times and candy collection.
This is the first time the town-sponsored event has fallen on a Sunday, said Town Parks and Recreation Supervisor Lynda Moore, a factor she said may make it a little more difficult for Main Street and downtown businesses to stay open and participate in the party.
Still, Moore is asking that as many merchants and citizens get involved to ensure the night is a success.
The town has purchased $1,500 worth of candy, said Deborah Ranney, an administrative assistant with the town. A Cottonwood store donated another $500 worth of sugary deliciousness. It’s the good stuff, so the little ghouls, goblins, Iron Men and fairy princesses don’t have to worry about a disproportional amount of molar-destroying penny candy and unidentifiable taffy-like cubes in their goodie bag at the end of the night.
Still, even $2,000 worth of candy goes quickly; people have run out of sweets every year.
The town is still taking candy donations at the Parks and Recreation office on Main Street, Moore said, and organizers are still looking for merchants willing to keep their stores open or people to set up booths or tables.
