The Mingus Union High School volleyball team won its fourth straight match Tuesday, Sept. 28, sweeping visiting Dysart High School, 3-0.
“I think our passing was good and our offense was a bit more consistent tonight,” Mingus Head Coach Audrey Islas said after the match Tuesday. “Dysart plays a little unconventional so we needed to make a few adjustments.”
The Marauders as a team collected 34 assists against Dysart on Tuesday night, a season high.
Mingus made things look easy in game one, winning 25-13, and made things even easier in games two and three, winning 25-11 and 25-16 to take the match, 3-0.
With their fourth straight victory in the books, the Marauders improve their record to 6-5 [2-0, 4A-II Grand Canyon] overall this season.
Leading Mingus on the court Tuesday was senior outside hitter Amanda Randolph who recorded 10 kills and one block assist.
Senior team captain Kayla Dixon wasn’t bad herself, recording nine kills, six digs, two ace serves and one assist while varsity newcomer Angel Chavez had seven kills, two ace serves and a block assist.
Chavez was called up a week ago by Islas after two seniors quit the team. Islas did not disclose the two members who were no longer with the team, or why they decided to leave.
Senior team captain Lashea Taylor also had a good night, recording four kills, one ace, one assist and one dig.
According to Islas, the current four match win streak is a great stepping stone to bigger and better things for this Marauders team.
“We’re beginning to gel and play well. It comes at a great time too with our rival coming to town this week,” Islas said.
Flagstaff High School will be in Cottonwood on Thursday, Sept. 30, to face the Marauders, who are 2-0 in region play.
The Eagles are currently 7-2 overall this season and are ranked No. 7 in the Arizona Interscholastic Association power point polls, which were released Wednesday, Sept. 29.
Mingus is ranked No. 13.
Scheduled start time for the Flagstaff-Mingus match is set for 6 p.m. It will be the last home match until the regular season finale against Coconino High School on Thursday, Oct. 28.
Mingus has a four-match road trip starting Thursday, Oct. 7, against Coconino.
